Last week was Big Energy Saving Week (18-22 January), a national campaign by Citizens Advice and Energy Saving Trust. Its aim is to help you cut your energy bills and get all the financial support you are entitled to.

There are often many changes you can make to help make your property more energy efficient. These in turn mean you, or your tenants, can save energy, cut bills and be more environmentally friendly.  We shared some of these changes in a recent blog….

Making your rental home more energy efficient

But are you aware of the Government’s Green Homes Grant? If you’re a homeowner or a residential landlord, you can apply for a voucher to spend on installing energy efficient improvements to your home.

The vouchers will cover two-thirds of the cost of eligible improvements, up to a maximum Government contribution of £5,000.

If you, or someone in your household, receive certain benefits you may be eligible for a voucher covering 100% of the cost of the improvements (with a maximum value of £10,000). Note that this option is only available to homeowners though, and not landlords.

The voucher must be used to install at least 1 primary energy efficient measure, the Government defines a primary measure as some type of insulation, or low carbon heating measure.

If this primary measure costs less than the amount of the voucher, any remaining spend can be used on a secondary measure, which is defined by the Government as heating controls (such as smart heating) or windows and doors (e.g. double glazing).

Vouchers must be redeemed and improvements completed by 31 March 2022. Providing they follow Covid-19 secure guidelines, Green Homes Grant installers can continue to work in people’s homes during lockdown.

You can find out more about applying for the Green Homes Grant on the Government’s website….https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-the-green-homes-grant-scheme
